Guidelines for Use
Printers marked green are available for general use. If you need help getting started, please see a HubTech for assistance.
Printers marked yellow should only be used under the direct supervision of a HubTech or Hub faculty member.
Printers marked red should only be set up by HubTechs or Hub faculty.
Students may use up to 500g of filament per semester. If you need more filament, you may purchase an additional 1000g here.
Please fill out a print request form (found near the printers in the Maker’s Space) and record the amount of filament used. You can see the amount of filament your print will need when you slice your file. Alternatively, you can weigh your print after it has finished.
If you plan to print anything that will use more than 150g of filament, please have a HubTech check your sliced file before sending it to the printer. Having someone else check for potential printing problems can help avoid wasted time and material.
Laser Cutting
A laser cutter allows you to precisely cut and engrave a wide range of materials like wood, acrylic, paper, cardboard, and leather, allowing you to create intricate designs for projects like custom signage, models, packaging, toys, jewelry, personalized gifts, and prototypes.
Equipment Available
BossLaser LS-2440 CO2 Laser Cutter and Engraver
Guidelines for Use
Please see a HubTech or Hub faculty member for assistance with the laser cutter. The laser cutter should never be used without a HubTech or Hub faculty member.
Users should provide their own materials to be cut or engraved. The laser cutter can cut wood, acrylic, foam, and cardboard up to 3/4” thick. It can engrave on wood or on laser-able metals (metals that have a coating that the laser removes). Here is a complete list of materials that can be used.
Vinyl+ Cutting
A cutting machine, such as a Cricut, allows you to precisely cut intricate designs into a diverse range of materials, including vinyl, paper, cardstock, and fabric enabling you to make items like custom t-shirts, wall art, stickers, labels, cards, personalized gifts, and more.
Equipment Available
Cricut Maker 3
Cricut Venture
Cricut AutoPress
Guidelines for Use
These machines are available for general use. Please see a HubTech if you need assistance.
Users should supply their own materials. Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Wal-Mart, and Target are all nearby stores that carry most of the materials you may need. Some materials are also available for purchase from the Hub Supply Store. Note that most supplies available from the Hub Supply Store are sold by the foot, so you will need to measure out how much you need. For smaller projects, there is also a box of free scraps. You will find the materials for the Hub Supply Store and the box of scraps in the cabinets underneath the Cricut machines.
Sewing & Embroidery
If you want to work with fabric, the Maker’s Space has both embroidery and sewing machines. Use a sewing machine to create or repair clothing, make quilts, accessories, or other decorative items. Use an embroidery machine to help you personalize or decorate shirts, towels, bags, and more.
Equipment Available
Brother CS 7000X Computerized Sewing Machines (6 available)
Husqvarna Viking Designer SE Embroidery/Sewing/Quilting Machine
Brother Entrepreneur 6 Needle Multi Embroidery Machine (PR680W)
Iron & Ironing Board
Guidelines for Use
The machines marked green are available for general use. Please see a HubTech if you need assistance.
The multi-needle embroidery machine should only be set up by a trained HubTech or Hub faculty member.
Users should provide their own fabric, notions, and/or blank embroidery items. Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart are nearby stores that carry fabric. Some free scrap fabric and notions are available in the marked bin in the Maker’s Space.
Pins, needles, etc. are available for use, but these should not leave the Maker’s Space. A basic supply of thread is also available.
Sublimation Printing
Sublimation printing allows you to add designs to fabric, ceramics, metal, and more. The process involves printing a design onto special transfer paper with sublimation ink, then using a heat press to transfer the dye from the paper to the material, where it turns into a gas and bonds with the material's surface. This produces a permanent, vibrant, and durable print that is embedded into the material, rather than sitting on top.
Equipment Available
Epson F570 Sublimation Printer
Cricut AutoPress
Guidelines for Use
The sublimation printer should be used with the guidance of a HubTech or Hub faculty member.
We have both 17” and 24” sublimation paper rolls.
Users should provide their own blanks (mugs, tumblers, apparel, etc.). Hobby Lobby has a large selection of sublimation blanks.
Note that sublimation printing only works on poly-coated items or light-colored, polyester fabric (at least 65% polyester).
Sublimation ink and paper are provided for up to 20 items per student per semester. However, if you want to do a lot of sublimation printing (more than 20 items per semester), you may purchase additional prints from the Hub Supply Store.
Wide Format Printing
Need to make your ideas extra large? Our photo-quality wide-format printer will allow you to print posters and banners up to 42” wide on paper, photo paper, or vinyl.
Equipment Available
HP DesignJet Z5200
Guidelines for Use
The wide format printer should only be set up by a HubTech or Hub faculty member.
The substrates we generally have available are bond paper, polypropylene, adhesive polypropylene, satin photo paper, and opaque scrim. Prints are priced by the foot. You will find the cost for each of these materials in the Hub Supply Store.
The printer can print up to 42” wide. Some substrates are 42” wide, while others are 36” wide.
