Summer Camps

First, look at the age ranges for the camps and select one that would be appropriate. The Junior Camp is for rising 2nd-4th graders (ages 7-10), the Intro Camp is for rising 4th-8th graders (ages 9-14), the Beyond Camp is for rising 5th-8th graders (ages 10-14), the Engineering Design Camps are for rising 6th-12th graders (ages 11-18).

If you want to learn how to use a 3D printer, we recommend you start with the Intro Camp. If you have completed the Intro Camp and want to learn more how to use 3D printing to solve problems, go to the Beyond Camp. If you are ready to use more sophisticated CAD software to create detailed 3D models, choose one of the Design Camps. Note that we do rotate our Design Camps. We plan to offer the Hand Camp again next year, whereas the Engine Camp will be rotated off, so if you aren’t sure which to attend, you may want to choose the Engine Camp and do Hand the following year.

The cost for the Intro to 3D Printing Camp includes an Bambu A1 Mini printer that you can take home at the end of the week. You may also choose to participate in the camp without purchasing a printer, in which case your student will have a printer to use during camp but will not take it home. The base cost for the Intro camp without the printer is $250. You may also choose to upgrade to the the Bambu A1 for an additional $100 or to the Bambu A1 combo for $200.

Participants in the other camps may also choose to add a Bambu A1 Mini for $200, a Bambu A1 for $300, or a Bambu A1 combo for $400. All printers will be sold on a first-come, first served basis.

The primary differences are size and cost. The Bambu A1 mini can print something that is 7" x 7" x 7". The Bambu A1 can print something that is 10" x 10" x 10". The A1 mini costs $200. The A1 costs $300. The A1 combo is the A1 printer with an add-on unit that allows users to print 4 colors at the same time.

Yes! Middle school students may consider doing an Intro Camp to learn the mechanics of the 3D printer followed by an Engineering Design Camp. The Engineering Design Camps do not overlap, so students may consider doing both. Students may also consider doing the Intro Camp in the morning and the Beyond Camp in the afternoon (Week 2).

The earlier, the better! All of our camps are limited by the number of computers and printers we have available, so sign up early to ensure you have a spot. The camps usually do fill up. We will keep registration open until camps are full, but you must register by May 1 to guarantee a T-shirt size and to avoid a $50 late registration fee.

The camps take place at Union University (Jackson Campus). They are located on the first floor of The Ethos Forum (the newest academic building on campus).
